I feel crafty

21 years...

No crafty goodness today! I just wanted to celebrate that after 21 years of smoking, I have been smoke free for one month now. :) I'm so excited because I never thought I could do it. I've never even tried to quit before because well, I thought I enjoyed it, and that it calmed me. Now I've discovered it was just something that cured my boredom and that I need to find other ways to do that. I did find an article that I wish I would have found BEFORE I decided to quit..lol... It is Dr. Oz's advice on how to quit..it seems like a much better idea then quitting cold turkey and eating everything in sight without a good habit to replace the bad! He says that for the first 30 days..don't quit...start walking for 30 mins a day..replace the bad habit BEFORE you quit..(good idea man, I so could have used that before I replaced it with eating!)

So now that I know I have more willpower than I ever thought possible. I shall move on during the second week of the new year, why the second week? A) because I found out my hubbo's insurance might cover part of a health club monthly bill and it doesn't start til after the new year and have to have time to turn it in..and B) I want all the new year's resolution peeps out of my way..because even though I've decided to do it now, it isn't a New Year's resolution..it's a from now on resolution..

I purposely quit smoking cold turkey right after Thanksgiving. I wanted to do this during the hardest part of the year..the stress, the holidays, the food, because I knew if I could do it then...I could keep doing it...and I surprised myself. I think I set myself up to fail on purpose..but actually succeeded. What a nice surprise. They say that only 2 - 3% of people who quit cold turkey are successful. I've met 4 people that did it..so what a small world...I intend to join their club.

Well, now it's time to reverse what I've done eating in place of my smoking. I can do it...I need to make time for exercise. No more excuses. I can say I don't have time..but I do. I can make myself have time, just like I do for every other important thing that I take care of for my husband and kids and family. I am just as important as they are. And if I'm not well, I'm not doing them any good. Time to get a little discipline in on myself...and start to feel good again...yay...wish me luck!

Brownies in an Eggshell

So I just had to show you that it does work! Even for a novice baker like me! I will tell you that I made 7 and thought I had them all half full..but when I opened that one..lol it was hollow and only on the sides...umm oops! So they came out of the oven a mess! But I cleaned them all up with a damp washcloth like the lady says and fixed her right up! Make your own here!

Ok, now to make another lengthy post to catch up! LOL! So I made cookie boxes for my annual cookie exchange that I hostess with my BFF Mariah! It's so fun each year and she is a FABULOUS party planner!

And I had to make some Santa Drawer Boxes that I bought the pattern for! They are so much fun!!

and another birthday card I made with my Sweet Treats (or something like that) cartridge on my cricut!

It had to have a gift card holder so I made the cupcake open to hold the card!

Shew and now you are finally caught up with what I've been doing (well, except for the 12 dozen cookies I made today) No pictures yet but here's the recipe if you are interested!!

So it's been awhile since I've posted. It's not that I've not been busy...just a lazy blogger! Well, now you can catch up with me!

I made some gifties for my girls at work! One has chickens at her house so I made her the chicken scratch posty note holder and an egg box to hold her office supplies and I'm going to try this out:

And another girl at work that is all blingy! So I found some quotes on pinterest I liked and re-created them for her blingy gift in my paint shop!

I also made some gifts the week before for a few more girls in the office (I do little things for all their birthdays, we are a small place so I can!) I made these cute pie crust cookies and put them on mugs with these tags I made them!

Ok, since this is getting picturific, I will start another post with my other recent craftios! LOL!

Yeah, so I see it's been FOREEEEVER since I've posted! Bad me!! But it's not that I haven't been busy. Just had to share this adorable fun thing to make! My daughter said she wanted a sock for her IPOD. I found a tutorial here that I thought was cute: Monster Ipod case. My daughter has a sweatshirt from Hot Topic that looks like this:

except hers had nerd glasses..umm cute! But I decided to use the above tutorial and make her this!!

I added one of those keyrings that open and close so she can clip her mini me on her when she wears her sweatshirt..was so fun! Had to share!!

OOOH! I almost forgot this also! I saw some beautiful scale stitch neckwarmer and scarves on Etsy and had to try this out also. It's such a fun stitch, although I had to watch someone do it on youtube a few times to figure it out! Some Coffee Cozies--Back to crochet for a bit!

Well, going back and forth on crafts now. Get tired of one do the other. The two I'll never get bored with are papercrafts and crochet. And for now it's on to crochet. Here is a pattern I used to make a coffee cup cozy http://schmutzerellascrafts.blogspot.com/2010/02/7-cable-mug-cozy.html. I thought it was so cute, I changed it up a bit and made it from #3 crochet thread and made one for the portable coffees also in the second photo. Then I just had to show you that my hubbo got crafty for me and put up some ribbon reels so that I could actually see all my ribbon!! Yay!!! Enjoy! Coptic Stitch Binding Book

But it does seem to work stress right out of my system (in between cursing and untying knots) but hey that's all behind the scenes! One more note, I didn't take a picture of because I don't want a reminder of something that makes me curse in my head everytime I see it was this mongo loop I accidentally made at the very end (I know right, how frustrating to mess up big time at the end)? Couldn't fix it so I glued that sucker down and it will now be MY book..lol...cause only I am worthy of known mistake objects that I can't cover up..! Have a great day and enjoy!

I made my first real book!

I have to admit I was very intimidated by the stitching, but once I started doing it..eaaaasy! It looks so nice when done! I can't wait to decorate it up and maybe go buy some lined paper for the next one! So much fun! Here are my results...don't be afraid, give it a whirl!! More books to come, this was alot of fun!

Worry Journals

Let me start off by saying, I looked into these worry journals because I have many a time been awake for HOURS after I try to go to sleep with all these racing thoughts of things I need to get done, or heck, even just things I want to create! I had heard about worry journals and looked up an article about it online. I think it is a fabulous idea. Then I was trying to create something for my best friends (aka best mother I know, besides mine!) kiddos.

I went to her oldest daughers birthday party. That was her firstborn and a gift in itself. Then she has a heart so big she invited 3 more siblings in that she will be adopting this year. I thought maybe this might make a good gift for some truly great kids that really had gotten kicked around from house to house until they found my best friend and her fabulous husband. Hmmm...hate to separate it like that when I think of it..because they are truly both OUR best friend's as a couple. :) They are both fantastic people who made their kids finally feel, loved, wanted, and secure. And I consider all four of them my little adoptive nieces and nephews!

Anyway I only took pictures of the outside of the books and had to blub out their names to protect their privacy but you'll get the idear! Just altered the tiny composition notebooks...decorated the outside...and on the inside I put inspiring quotes about family and love and all.

I wish you all to be so lucky as to know someone with a heart this big. I know I am proud to know them!!

Time for my sister's birthday again! This year I made her a little moneybook that I got from the 12 days of Christmas tutorial I bought here http://www.inkingidaho-tutorials.blogspot.com/ . She had 12 cool tutorials to make little gifties and one of them was this little moneybook. I just wrapped thread around inner bind paper and weaved the dollars in each wrap. I bought the cupcake mini ornaments on sale at WalMart after Christmas for 50 cents for a card of 4 of them. They are all glittery and pretty! Was a fun project!

Getting ready for the Valentine Partaaaaaaay!

So just working on a few more crafts for the upcoming Valentine Cardmaking/Craft Party I'm having. Had my mom over this weekend helping me get ready and she came up with an idea to use up some of my toilet paper tubes that I had all ready and flattened for notebooks but hadn't used yet. We just squared them all up and covered and blinged and bought some green florist foam to put in the inside of the squares to hold the suckers for a centerpiece for our party!

Then I found the CUTEST tutorial for mini ice cream cones here: http://poppypaperie.typepad.com/poppy_paperie/2008/12/love-songs-i-melt-with-you-how-sweet-it-is.html and had to try them for a co-workers birthday gift that I'm bringing in on Monday. But just so you know..this was soooooooooooooooo hard for me! Cutting those lil wafer cookies without them breaking was a nightmare! But...I must say the end result (and I did get 12 done) was aaaadorable!

I also had a few coffee cans laying around that my mom and I needed to pretty up for holding scissors, glue, or cardmaking stuffs at the party to come! Just wrapped em up and taped the paper on with tape gun, then wrapped ribbon through grommets (like my mom showed me..hehehehe) and added some beadwork.

And the boys were very busy painting our foyer!! Yay no more yucky wallpaper residue and actual painted walls woooooootay!

Time for Valentine's Crafts

Well, I'm back at it, finally! I'm having a Valentine Card/Craft making party the weekend before valentines and I decided to make crafts. Here's the skeletons of what I'm making. I got all the basic coupon books made just haven't decorated them until I know everyone who's coming so I can personalize them! Fun stuff! I spent about an hour on each one so far. Had 15 to make for so decided to start early and break it down to 1 or two a night that way I got them done without stressing! Now all I have to do is decorate. Let It Snow! Not really but....

Well, we had our first mini blizzard last Friday and now it's 70 degrees again! So I decided to play with a tutorial for paper snowflakes out of double sided scrap paper! I love how it turned out, so pretty! Although, glue dots do not hold very well unless your paper is thin! Just FYI! lol! Here is the tutorial if you'd like to try one yourself..may seem intimidating but nah, it was easy once I did a few and a little tricky making it fit together at the end but I had an aha moment after staring at the end result picture of hers for awhile..LOL!

Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! My favorite holiday woooohoooo! I'm so excited that the cute lil goblins and creative teenagers (not the ones that show up in street clothes..oh no ya don't, you must put forth effort for me candy! YARRRR!) will show up tonite and eat all this great candy I bought! Had to share a few crafts I muddled up too while I was at it! Trying Something New Tree of Life Pendant!

I've been gone awhile but not because I haven't been busy! I got a new job and slowed down my crafting a bit but didn't stop me! In the mean time I have decided to try something new. I tried a tutorial in beading to make something to go with my scrapbooking projects. Well, I've been pretty busy with work so haven't posted for awhile but hopefully it will slow down soon and I can get back to crafting after next week's trip to the Michigan Nascar Race woohoo excited!

In the meantime...the local stray has decided my house is her safehaven for her adorable little kittens! First just one..then four...now only three (I hope someone just snapped the fourth one up and it's ok) but I am feeding them and adoring them while they are here. Uhhhh, I could do without the every other day hunting lessons with dead birds that keep getting dropped at my doorstep..LOL!

Hi Ho Hi Ho It's off to work I go!

Woot! I got a job again in the administrative field after having two years of being laid off/vacation * ness!
So I figured I'd make a few projects to put me back in work mode!

Here's a altered clipboard I made so I can take notes on my first day! I put 4 layers of Modge Podge and then 2 layers of Acrylic Spray on (it was a tutorial I followed, but I think all those layers are overkill unless you put pictures on there) took a couple hours just waiting on glue/paint to dry..

Then I made some drink bands using some scraps, my cropadile and an awesome colorful rubber band ball that I found while cleaning my son's room! (He just goes mom, did you jack my rubber band ball?) HAHAHHA Well, maybe mommy shouldn't have to resort to cleaning her 15 year olds room!! Small price to pay I say!!! Anyway, here's what I made simple but fun! Now I just need some colored paper pads!!

A couple of cards for my husband

LOL Luckily he never reads my blog unless I direct him here...so here's a few cards I made for him. First is an anniversary shaker card for our anniversary in June. I just cut out the letter U and build with dimentional stickers a shaker box and filled it with hearts..turned out cute! Then stamped a notepad journal stamp on inside.

Then I found a fathers day wallet tutorial I followed here. Instead of stamping the texture I used my cuttlebug and just distress stamped it, ended up looking pretty cool!

Accordian Purse Card Holder

Ahhh that's better corrected mistakes from making last one..and this one turned out pretty good! The yellow is glittertastic like paper then the other paper is all about being yourself! I love the saying inside..I have all Claire Stoner's lil easel books..so great to use on things..and hey they might even be able to get their gift card out of this one! LOL!!

Mini Pizza Box Gift Holder

Ok, so I made a mini pizza box gift holder from this tutorial:

I do like the idea..but two things I have learned...
Uhhhh don't put your gift card in the middle of the inside of the box..put it down lower..or you'll rip your
box trying to cram the gift card in there! LOL!!!
Apparently use heavier stock paper than I did so it doesn't leave those white yuckies on the corners! But hey, you learn from my mistakes, right? hehehehhe Enjoy!!

Jumbo Paperclip BookMarks!

Loved making these! Made them all two sided but the other sides were plainer so just took pics of the prettier sides! These will make great gifts to give with books! Pretty easy to make..I used jumbo glue dots to adhere the two sides to the clip and it held fine! Now I'm on to making binder clip picture holders..see what I can do with that!

Ok, this was the funnest, most inexpensive gift I think I'd just not mind getting one made for myself!! Cost me about 3.00 total to make (.60 pen, 1.00 picture frame, 1.00 posty, plus misc paper and embellishments). I got this idea from a tutorial from Dawn at Stampin Up here:

Crochargosy Scarf

I hope you can see the colors in this scarf it turned out soooo pretty! You can make your own (free pattern) if you register free at http://www.crochetme.com/ then go under their free patterns section and look up Crochargosy Scarf! It was fun and easy..and I think I like it best made with the stripey sock yarn you see in their examples..but I had a skein not enough to make another pair of socks so made this instead!! Fun!!

Spring Sweater!!

Well, made my first sweater for spring! I think it turned out pretty good! I used a pattern out of the book Positively Crochet! by Mary Jane Hall, pattern was called Tangerine Top but of course my color is not tangerine!! Bought satin ribbon and it looked so pretty on there!!

Well, this yarn didn't do quite what I thought it would..but oh well, still another pair of socks done! This one was a ripple pattern from Learn to Crochet Socks! Also working on a sweater and a scarf that are turning out alot more like I thought so I'm excited to get those done! Just received my Cuttlebug today also..so playing around embossing, new papercrafts to come also!!!

Refreshing Mistakes!

Ok, so I made a grave error..and I am not afraid to share with you my error..even though I still had fun I had to use the cup the way I messed it up cause I already stuck the tack tape on and couldn't get it off..lol..so oh well, someone gets to be my guinea pig! I made the lil banner say your friendship is refreshing!

It was alot of fun!! I colored part of the image on my computer since I didn't have the ale color of markers and colored the glasses with my markers! Then I ran out of bling so used an iron on I had and just glued the stones around the drinks! I THOUGHT I was going to put my glitter brads in the holes that the card cut out lol but they were too small so I improvised with my buttons! Was alot of fun. Used a St. Patty's paper kit from:

Crafty Matchy Nailfiles for your purse!

I thought this was just an adorable idea mentioned by one of my Scal friends in our yahoogroup!! I got the nail files at http://www.foilman.com/ for 22 cents a book then got the matchbook template at http://dan99.blogspot.com/ and decided to make some easter goodies for the girls' purses!! Fun!! Now all I have to do is decorate the inside and maybe put some initials on the front!!

And another repurposing with something I would NEVER think to use (recycled toilet paper rolls) but it turned out sooooo cute!!! I love how you can put tags in the tubes and include gift cards or whatever!! I ended up using some of my jewelcrafting wire and wrapping it around a big knitting needle then curling the pointy ends for binding turned out good I thought!

Gratitude through loss...a sympathy card

I recently lost someone close to me this week, and found out that one of my online friends had also recently lost her father. I know her hurt and it actually healed me a little from my hurt to create something for her.

I used a tutorial for making a detachable bookmark card by Dawn here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2L3tjCj55k&feature=channel She has such fabulous tutorials.

I really liked the eskimo saying that I found online also and included in her card.

Perhaps they are not stars in the sky,
but rather openings where our loved ones
shine down to let us know they are happy.

My first matchbook!!

Ok, so I tried out making a matchbook from Dan's wonderful cut file he so selflessly shared on his blog: http://dan99.blogspot.com/ I made mine bigger as you can see in comparison to my mouse in picture. It was also my first try at embossing also..man it was messy...and I used an old stamp so didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped but still pretty! I embellished all the lil papers inside with flower stickers too! Cute! Have fun!!

Kitty Warfare!!!

So I have two cats, one I brought home from Arizona over 11 years ago and the other I just saved when he showed up on my porch all beat up by neighborhood cats! It's been a long road but white kitty (Charlie) has been recovering nicely, and black kitty (Spooky) has been somewhat tolerant of his presence. This morning I was awakened by a mad thumpy catfight under my bed only to get up quickly come downstairs to find this! Really could you guys fight somewhere else besides my scrapbooking station???

My sister's Birthday

Well, my sister's birthday is tomorrow and I've found a few projects I wanted to try.
I got a cute Valentine pail on sale for 80% off 37 cents woot! And the bag was pretty cheap too!
One of the projects is an accordian card which I filled with pictures of us at various ages and quotes from Claire Stoner's easel books.

Then I did the 34 sucks boquet of suckers..LOL..how cute!! Good thing she's not any older I would have had to have gotten a bigger pot!! Well, I found out my cousin is having a new baby boy and naming it after my late grandfather. I'm so excited for her! I made her a crochet granny square blanket, a baby exploding box with a pic of her ultrasound she had posted on fb and a cookie box I cut out on my cricut to fill with onsie cookies I'm working on with my friend Mariah that's coming over tomorrow to help me ice with her decorating expertise! Made some swirly twirly ice cream socks! Oh I love how they turned out! Look I made the border tops different too, cause I'm big on being not like everyone else, one of my biggest mantras with my kids! One of my New Year's resolutions was to make one pair of socks a month for Christmas gifts next year so that I don't fall behind along with my other crafts! January complete!! Now to go look for an ice cream or cupcake like box to gift them up in!
